Could Florida Eliminate Property Taxes?

There is a growing push to eliminate property taxes in Florida. Governor DeSantis and several lawmakers are exploring how to make it happen. No new tax has been proposed. No bill has passed. Nothing has been finalized.
The most discussed idea involves redirecting tourism tax dollars. Counties may be allowed to use up to seventy-five percent of hotel bed taxes to reduce local property taxes. These funds currently support beach cleanups, event centers, and tourism marketing.
Lawmakers have also floated the idea of raising the sales tax to replace the lost property tax revenue. That change would require a state constitutional amendment, which voters must approve.
Supporters say this shift could help homeowners stay in place. Critics say it could hurt tourism, reduce local services, and create instability.
What is your take? Would you support a sales tax increase if it meant no more property taxes? Would redirecting tourist dollars help or hurt your community?
