Make $100K Moving Up in a “Bad” Market

Right now, a lot of Jupiter homeowners are sitting on the sidelines. They are waiting for interest rates to drop, for prices to return to their previous levels, or for the news to feel more positive. The problem is that waiting does not always work in your favor, especially if you are thinking about moving into a larger home.

Picture this. Your current home in Jupiter is worth about one million dollars. In today’s market, you might sell it for ten percent less than it would have at the peak, so you walk away with nine hundred thousand. That might feel like a loss. But if you are buying a two-million-dollar home in the same market, that property is also likely priced ten percent below peak, which means you could get it for $1.8 million. You may have given up $100,000 on the sale of your home, but you saved $200,000 on your next purchase. That is a net win of one hundred thousand before you even move in.

Now think about what happens if the market rebounds. Your new home is now worth two million, giving you two hundred thousand in equity gains. If you had stayed in your current home, all you would have done is recover the value you lost and ended up right where you started. This is why timing matters more than most people realize.

Interest rates are higher than they were a couple of years ago, and no one can say for sure when they will change. That is why the decision to move up should make sense for your life and your finances today, not just based on the hope of a lower rate later. The real opportunity right now is in the pricing and the competition. Many sellers are more open to negotiation, and fewer buyers are competing for the same properties. That combination will not last. When demand picks back up, sellers will have more leverage, and the discounts available now will disappear.

If you have been thinking about upsizing into a larger or more luxurious property in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, or one of the nearby waterfront neighborhoods, now could be the time to act while most people are still waiting. If you want to talk it through, reply. I am happy to run the numbers with you anytime.
